This paper explored the rich treasury of traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) preserved and compiled by local and indigenous communities across the Indian subcontinent. Rural folk have inculcated an earnest tradition of immense respect and veneration towards nature within themselves which remains absent in the materialistic urban populace. Ancient Indian scriptures detail alternative ecological practices which can be utilised to sustainably manage resources once they have been modified to become more functional at a larger scale. Reviving this age-old system of collective ecological wisdom through psychological techniques will help instigate a sense of reverence in the current generations and direct their focus towards the urgent need to conserve our natural resources.
