Abstract

Political parties constitute the principal institutions through which citizens participate in political processes and democratic governance. Among the various indicators used to assess the strength of political parties, membership size remains one of the most significant measures of organizational capacity, mass mobilization, and political outreach. This study examines the membership strength of major political parties across different countries based on officially reported membership figures. By comparing parties operating in diverse political environments, including democratic, hybrid, and one-party systems, the article seeks to identify patterns of political mobilization and organizational development. The study further investigates the relationship between party membership, political influence, and governing status. Through a comparative analysis of selected major political parties, the article highlights the opportunities and challenges associated with measuring party membership across national contexts. The findings contribute to the broader discourse on political participation, party organization, and the evolving role of political parties in contemporary governance.
